SMS notification settings are tenant-wide spend controls for automated text messages. They are separate from a person's own notification preferences and from manual event Communications.
Who can change SMS settings
- Owners, admins, and users with the manage settings permission can open Settings > SMS Notifications.
- Automated SMS scenarios default to off when a workspace signs up and remain off until an authorised user enables them.
- A dismissible in-app banner tells authorised users when automated SMS is still off by default.
- Manual Communications and Site Plan SMS keep using their own per-send channel choices and credit estimates.
What the toggles control
- Trader Manager application, approval, and arrival-detail SMS.
- Compliance deadline reminder SMS.
- Open Application accepted SMS.
- Stage Manager application, running-order, contract-link, technician-link, stale-material, and scheduled reminder SMS.
Credit rules
- Every enabled automated SMS burns tenant SMS credits before ClickSend is called.
- Credits are charged per SMS part, so long messages can use more than one credit.
- SmartGig uses monthly plan credits first and then top-up credits.
- Emails are free, unlimited, and continue when SMS is disabled, skipped, or out of credits.
Skipped SMS reasons
- Scenario disabled: the tenant toggle is off.
- Recipient opted out: the person has unsubscribed from SMS.
- Missing phone: no usable SMS number is available.
- Insufficient credits: the workspace does not have enough remaining SMS credits for the estimated message parts.
Low and out-of-credit alerts
- Owners and admins receive email when remaining credits fall to the low threshold.
- The low threshold is 20% of the monthly SMS allowance or 10 credits, whichever is higher.
- Owners and admins receive email when SMS credits reach zero.
- Authorised users also see a dismissible in-app banner when SMS credits are low or out.
- Each alert sends once when entering that state and resets after renewal, top-up, or recovery above the low threshold.
Keep only the automated SMS scenarios that are genuinely useful switched on. Email will still carry the same automated notifications without spending SMS credits.
