Optimise and Review Transport Routes

Run route optimisation, inspect warnings, preview manual route changes, and save a reviewed dispatch plan.

All articles

Optimisation builds route assignments from your vehicles, stops, timing, fixed departure overrides, loads, and constraints. Review is where dispatch knowledge comes in: the optimiser can calculate, but your team still knows the venue, drivers, loading reality, and awkward access notes.

Optimise routes

01

Open the Routes tab

Use Optimise routes or Re-optimise when stops or settings have changed.

02

Wait for the result

SmartGig builds routes and returns warnings or errors where constraints cannot be satisfied.

03

Review route summaries

Check travel, service time, loads, time windows, and vehicle use.

04

Open warnings

Investigate load, timing, fixed departure, unassigned stop, linked stop, or vehicle constraint warnings.

Fixed departure overrides

A per-vehicle start time override fixes that vehicle to leave at the chosen local time for the route date. SmartGig plans around that instruction even when it means showing warnings because a time window, availability limit, or driver-day parameter can no longer be met.

Use fixed departure overrides only when the start time is genuinely non-negotiable. If the time is flexible, let the optimiser choose the best departure.

Manual review

01

Move stops if needed

Drag stops between vehicles or change their order where your operational knowledge improves the plan.

02

Preview the route impact

SmartGig can show the effect of custom assignments before saving.

03

Make sure every stop is assigned once

A reviewed plan should not duplicate or lose stops.

04

Save route review

The plan moves to Reviewed and becomes ready for export.

After manual changes, the plan is a custom configuration. That is fine, but it should be reviewed with human responsibility, not treated as still fully optimised.

Transport planning

Need a better way to plan event transport?

SmartGig Transport helps event teams assign vehicles, reuse driver and dispatch contacts, optimise routes, email private driver route links, generate job sheets and share calendar feeds.
